The McKinsey Global Institute has issued a report proving that manufacturing contributes disproportionately to exports, innovation and productivity growth.
Sweet music in our ears as this clearly counters a common belief that we in the Western world should accept that manufacturing moves to low-cost countries and that we should focus on innovation, development and service industries.
But without manufacturing no innovation – industries and countries cannot just simply decouple R&D from manufacturing. The two go together.
